Kyung Jin Kim is the Senior Managing Director of FTI Consulting, where he specializes in cybersecurity, privacy, digital forensic investigations, risk management, crisis management, criminal, counterintelligence, and counterterrorism investigations, and national security matters. He is an expert in network management and analysis, adept at investigating the root cause of network failures, implementing proper security processes, and assisting with cloud migration issues.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Kim served as the head (Legal Attaché) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at the U.S. Embassy Seoul, Korea. He served as a Special Advisor to two U.S. Ambassadors on significant international affairs covering all FBI national security matters affecting the U.S. and Korean Peninsula. He provided guidance and coordination on numerous risk management and crisis incidents related to cyber threats, such as ransomware, DDoS attacks, theft of cryptocurrency, and business email compromise schemes. Mr. Kim coordinated with the FBI Cyber Division and Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force to provide cyber training to the host nation entities in order to better address cyber threats emanating from North Korea, China, and Russia.
Prior to deploying to Seoul, Korea, Mr. Kim served as Supervisory Special Agent in the New York FBI Division covering all organized crime-related matters. Mr. Kim also worked at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) covering East Asia matters between 2008 and 2009. Between 1997 and 2004, Mr. Kim worked at the Philadelphia Police Department as a major crime detective covering all criminal matters including shootings, assaults, armed robberies, and fraudulent investigations. During his tenure, Mr. Kim received the FBI Director’s Award and CIA Exceptional Performance Award. In 2021, Mr. Kim was named as one of ALM Consulting Magazine’s Top 25 Consultants in the Excellence in Manufacturing category.
